Rebellious local teenager Clotaire falls in love with his schoolmate Jackie – but gang violence leads him down a darker, more destructive path. After years apart, the ill-fated lovers discover that every path they took leads them back together. Malik Frikah, who plays 17-year-old Clotaire in this film, was a world champion break dancer at age 10. The film is very long and quite unbalanced between the first part, where the characters are teenagers, and the second part, set ten years later.The acting is really good. The young actors are fresh and authentic. Adele and François are great. Alain Chabat is a big teddy bear and, as always, you want to punch Benoit Poolvoorde. The musical score gives a small French industrial town and 80s feel. Mainly British and American songs, but so rooted in the era. By the end of the film, you’ll have a smile on your face. It’s not the best film of the year, but it’s a beautiful, crazy, passionate love story. Although it’s bumpy, you follow Clotaire and Jackie the whole time.
